Get up close to the birds and other wildlife without disturbing them. Relax, explore the river and enjoy the beautiful scenery.

Our self-drive boats are very easy for anyone to operate and no license is required. We will be offering an optional guide who can point out the best route, the wildlife, the historic buildings and locations while explaining the fascinating history of the Kerikeri river.

Before roads were developed, the Kerikeri river was the front entrance to Kerikeri and everyone arrived by boat. The first Maori and later the first Europeans were amazed by the beautiful and sheltered location, teeming with wildlife, a new vista opening up around each bend in the winding river. They each in turn chose to settle at the head of the river, where New Zealand’s oldest house still stands. Follow in their wake, approach the historic Kororipo Pa and Stone Store by water, see them as they were meant to be seen..

We offer a range of boat types with two, four, six or seven seats, something to suit everyone. Large groups can take several boats – the motors are silent so you can chat with people in the next boat without even raising your voice.

Our solar powered English river launch “Solarly” is a true classic with ample space for 6 people either inside or outside the cabin. The design dates back to the 1920s and these electric boats have been popular on the upper reaches of the river Thames for 100 years. Solarly began her life in England, spent many years on a lake in Switzerland and has now arrived at her new home in Kerikeri. She has ample batteries to run all day, plus a full solar canopy to provide both power and shade. The rear cabin is enclosed by glass to keep you warm in the winter without spoiling the view. The deep cockpit is very safe for children. We recommend Solarly for guests who have some previous experience steering boats. Note that there is not full standing headroom for adults so this boat is not recommended if you have a bad back. If you really love this boat you can even buy one!
Ruban Bleu Scoop Electric Boat
“Akaroa” was designed and built in France as the ideal electric hire craft, comfortable for 7 people and very easy for beginners to steer. The deep cockpit is safe for children. Ideal to share with your family and friends! Akaroa is brand new and perfectly presented for your special occasion. Want to set up your own boat hire operation? Talk to us, and buy some of these!
Our mini catamarans “Positive Red” and “Neutral Blue” feature two comfortable reclining seats for the ultimate relaxed boating experience. An extra two people can sit at the front. A wonderful romantic experience for a couple or fun for the whole family (not suitable for children under 5 years old). Ideal for silently observing the birdlife on the river. Built in New Zealand, if a hire is not enough then do contact us about buying one!
Our accessible mini catamaran “Yellow Earth” has level access, standing headroom, safety railings and upright seating for four people. The high seating position provides a great view. This is usually our staff safety boat but can be reserved for elderly or disabled guests.
